I quit social media for August

Yesterday morning, I was tired. It was Sunday, which is always a slow day for my wife and I. But I was extra sleepy. I worked till around 12:30, went home to refuel, then went for bowling and hangs for the bachelor party of one of my oldest and closest friends. I was home by 11 and don't drink. But still, I woke up extra tired.

For some reason, before even checking my phone, I realized just how sick and tired of social media I am right now. I've been on it too much and on my phone too much general. So I decided that instead of checking Instagram Sunday morning, I would just delete all the social media apps from my phone. Just for a Sunday without.

In less than an hour I decided to just stay off it completely for the month of August. I didn't log back on one to make a big announcement about it or get one last hit of scrolling. I simply made the decision and moved on.

Unfortunately, this only applies to personal social media use. As a small business owner I have to use it for business purposes. But I'm at least keeping some guardrails around that too. I will use our business social media accounts from a computer only, not my phone. All social media is off my phone, even business stuff, except for Buffer which I use to schedule posts.

My brain and boredom reflexes just need a reset. I want to be more present for my wife and the people I care about and find some new hobbies. I don't have grand expectations. But I haven't looked at social media since Saturday, August 1, and that's pretty cool.
